The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Friday said it has reunited about 200 unaccompanied children with their parents.
The children are among the thousands displaced by insurgency in northeast.
Mr. Sa’ad Bello, NEMA’s the Head of Operations in Adamawa and Taraba states, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yola, said that the successful re-unification was conducted with the collaboration of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
He said that the children mostly between the ages of five and 12, were from Bama and Baga in Borno state.
“Meanwhile, we still have about 165 unaccompanied children in four designated camps in Adamawa.” Bello said.
He explained that not quite ago, some families from Bama visited some Internally Displaced Persons camps in Yola where they identified their children.
Bello confirmed that after intensive investigation by appropriate authorities, the children were handed over to their parents.
He said that the agency with the support of ICRC is working round the clock through appropriate channels to identify the parents of the remaining unaccompanied children to link up.
Bello explained that the agency was now preparing for full scale rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the states. (NAN)
