Liverpool defeated Arsenal four goals to three on Sunday at the Emirates stadium in the first game of the season for both clubs.
The north London team even had to struggle to peg the visitors to the decent scoreline as they trailed 1-4 up to the 63rd minute.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Calum Chambers came to the rescue to reduce the deficit by two goals.
Arsenal had opened scoring in the 31st minute following a spot kick miss by Theo Walcott a minute earlier. It was the same Walcott that collected a pass from Alex Iwobi to atone for his horrific penalty miss.
But just before the first half ended, Philippe Coutinho registered on the score sheet for Liverpool from a direct free kick in the extra time of the first half.
Adam Lallana, who marked his return to Premier League action, increased Liverpool lead four minutes after resumption of play.
Coutinho added to Arsenal’s woes seven minutes after, with his second goal of the day. And Sadio Mane completed the humiliation of their hosts seven minutes after with Liverpool’s fourth goal.
