**UPDATE** Apple has just announced the iPhone SE, a new 4-inch smartphone that offers a smaller and cheaper option to the company’s flagship iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. It’s like a mix between the iPhone 5 and iPhone 6 generations of devices, taking the size and design of one and the latest specs and capabilities of the other. Apple calls the iPhone SE “the most powerful 4-inch smartphone ever.”
The new iPhone SE starts at $399 with 16GB of storage and maxes out at $499 with 64GB. It’ll be available in gold and rose gold colors alongside more traditional light and dark options. The US mobile phone giant Apple will be holding an event today, Monday March 21, where it is expected to unveil a new iPhone, named the iPhone SE.
It is however being reported that the iPhone SE will be a smaller and cheaper version of the iPhone 6s, put into a body with the size and some of the look of the iPhone 5. This, the company says is coming as a big pressure ahead of its major next big iPhone launch, the iPhone 7, expected in September.
iPhone sales don’t appear to be growing at their previously super swift speed. That could be happening for a number of reasons, but it’s certain that at some point Apple will have sold iPhones to everyone who could ever want one.

Rumors concerning the name Apple will choose for its upcoming 4-inch iPhone have shifted several times, leaving it unclear what Apple will ultimately call the device when it launches in March.
Early information suggested the 4-inch iPhone would look like the iPhone 5c, leading the media to refer to it as the “iPhone 6c,” but rumors later shifted towards a design similar to the iPhone 5s with the name “iPhone 5se.” Shortly ahead of the device’s launch, new information suggested it could actually be called the “iPhone SE,” doing away with Apple’s standard number-based iPhone naming scheme.
